Condolences for the Passing of Rabbi Dr Pesach Schindler
Rabbi Dr. Pesach Schindler
10 Av 5777 (2 August 2017)
Dear Bat Kol alums and Friends,
Â
With sorrow, our Bat Kol community mourns the passing of our beloved Rabbi Dr. Pesach Schindler. He taught for Bat Kol for over 25 years. He is known by our alums worldwide. We know him as a dynamic professor of Talmud, as a great personal director of students writing search papers, as a musician and a long distance runner. Others had him as director of their master’s thesis.  All gave him high praise for his interest in his students and his ability to make profound thoughts understandable.
Â
We know he lives on in all the lives of those he touched. Â He lives on in us, as well, by the seeds of Torah he sowed within us and which have brought forth fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.
Maureena Fritz, NDS, Ph.D.

I met Rabbi Pesach in 2011 and 2012 and was greatly touched by his life story. His
teachings were prosaic and insightful. To his family, I wish you all ‘long life’. Elina

Sincere condolences on the passing of the great Rabbi Dr. Pesach Schindler.
I hope death came gently towards him, affording him time to make his way through
the cold embrace of fear to the place of inner tranquility.
May his soul take an imprint of each face that he has met, after a rich & active life,
drawing each image within, as companions for the journey of passing.
May he see the reflection of his life’s work, kindness and beauty, in all the tears that fall
for him.
And on the other side, may his heart be renewed at the sight of the truth of all which his
belief had hoped.
Ar Dheis DĂ© go raibh a anam dĂlis.

I was lucky enough to study with Pesach Schindler at the beginning of my time with
Bat Kol. I was also lucky enough to study Talmud with him last year in Jerusalem. He
was loved by his students and part of the joy of this class was watching them interact.
He was a true blessing to me and countless others

What a great loss for the Bat Kol family. Rabbi Pesach was an amiable fellow who was
always willing to ensure that his students understand him well. Gifted with a high
intellect that will make him call you by your first name no matter how long he saw you
last! I will personally miss him.

Rabbi Schindler wil be missed. He was full of wisdom and passion. I will always
remember him for motivating me to expound more on my opinion of a text in Shemot
during a class in Bat Kol 2012. He affirmed my first opinion, walked away, then came
back to me. His face was about a foot and a half away from mine. He looked me in the
eye and emphatically said, “What else?! What else?! Think! Think!” That episode left a
very deep impression and will forever influence the way I study and teach Scripture. I
am very grateful for that. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

It is with such sadness that I receive the news of Rabbi Dr Pesach Schindler’s passing.
I remember Pesach as a powerful teacher, encouraging yet always calling the student
to the next step, the next idea, the next possibility…not to settle. He had an immense
intellect, yet could distill the essence of an idea simply without losing any of its
profundity. He was a wonderful human being, a man of wisdom and compassion, who
had reflected deeply upon all life’s experiences, the joy and the suffering, with enduring
faith. He always spoke from those depths. Life, love, joy, hope permeated his person. I
first met Pesach on my first Bat Kol program in 2007, and again in 2009. He also
mentored me in my weekly Light of Torah writings through a regular email conversation
2009-2013. And he generously made room in his schedule to teach our Australian
Light of Torah groups each year that they came to Israel. I will always treasure his
encouragement, insights, guidance, friendship and sense of humor. So many
memories. So much blessing. Thank you for the opportunity to remember and give
thanks. Our hearts go out to the Schindler family at this time. May our ongoing Torah
work, and our love for the Jewish people, honor the memory of our friend and teacher. | Teresa Pirola
